Charity Knits

Last night at the Knit Club we had a talk from someone who volunteers with http://www.edinburghdirectaid.org/. It was an interesting chat about what they do and who they help. They go into places that have had disasters and help them rebuild their lives and become self sufficient again. I urge you to look at their website, if I didn't have my son I wouldn't definitely volunteer to go over their and help. But because it isn't practical for me to do so I do the next best thing and knit items of clothing to give to those who need it. It was good to hear last night that the people who receive them really appreciate them something which I think is lacking in this country. I would love to knit for people here in the UK but most people here turn their nose up at hand knitted clothes which I think is such a shame as there is a lot of poverty in this country but because of the snobbish attitudes here people will not take them.

Anyway here are the photos of my recent knits

I had to take them with the flash off as the detail couldn't be seen. We are now knitting for http://http://www.theraventrust.org/. They send lots of items to Malawi, we have sent to them before and once again they were very appreciative. It gives you a nice warm feeling to know that something you enjoy doing is appreciated by someone else, I don't do any of this for gratitude just knowing that someone is getting the use out of something that I have made.

I am a knitting and wool addict which my partner can vouch for. I have wool all over my house from top to bottom if I bring anymore in he says "Oh no more wool". But my feeling is that you can never have enough wool and I am using it to do good. Well I can't think of anything else to say right now I lead such an exciting life I must get back to it. Stay tuned for the next enthralling episode.

Pictures of New Fish and Knit Club News

Here we are as promised a picture of the new fish. There is a big difference in size but it won't be for long. The big shubunkin was about the size of the new fish when we got it but it soon grew into a beauty. We have now identified that the comet (the yellow one) is a male and the rest are female so we may soon hear the gentle swish of tiny fins.

Tonight was my weekly visit to my knit club. There was 10 of us there tonight and we had a good laugh and good chat as usual. I have been busy knitting away and next week we are having a talk from a man who is with the charity http://www.edinburghdirectaid.org/. They take any items so I will be busy this week finishing off what I have knitted. That is thing I hate the most the sewing up, on a positive note I did finish off something today it was a tank top in a lovely green marble wool by James C. Brett. It is quite a thick yarn but the finished garment feels very cosy.

A horrible thing happened when we were coming home tonight. I was given a lift from one of the ladies at the group and just as we were about to leave the car park a woman and her young daughter stopped us. The reason they stopped us was to beg for money, of course she came up with some cock and bull story about how she had come to the hospital to visit someone but when they got there they were not in the hospital and now she has no money for her and her daughter to get home. My friend gave her a pound but she wasn't happy with that luckily we were in a car and could get away quickly. I really think it is shocking that these "professional beggars" get away with this. If they got a pound from everyone they asked they would be rich, and to use a child to get sympathy is just disgusting. But this is a regular occurence where I live you can't even go to the local shop without someone asking you for money. I thought that begging was a criminal offence please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Anothere bug bear I have is those people who sell the Big Issue, I spoke to someone who sold it and he told me not to buy it as most of them who sell it are not in fact homeless. They "work" all day selling and then sit in the pub all night drinking their earnings so I for one will not buy the Big Issue. I know that there are probably a lot of genuine homeless who sell it but for those who are not they are giving them a bad name.

Right I will get off my soap box now and love you and leave you.

A New Addition

Exciting news here we have a new addition to our family. It is a little shubunkin to go with our other five fish. There is no photo yet but here is one of the tank before the new edition.

I love my fish it is so peaceful to sit and watch them swimming about. I didn't realise how big they were until we put the new fish in it looks tiny but it will soon grow. I was a bit worried at first when we put the little shubunkin in as fish have a reputation of being cannibals but everything went fine, they were curious but they seem to have accepted the new addition to the family. People say that fish have a five second memory well I disagree with that. My fish definitely recognise us and they beg for food whenever we walk past the tank. They are very tame and will almost feed out of your hand.

As well as a new fish I have also been getting on with some knitting for my local group. We give to a lot of different charities and they seem to really appreciate what they receive. Unfortunately most of the items we knit are bound for abroad as charities in Britain don't really want any hand knitted clothes which I think is a shame as I would love most of what I knit to stay in this country. I will post photos of what I am knitting when they are completed which should be within the next couple of days. We had a little party last week to celebrate one year of Kirkcaldy Knit Club. There are about 15 of us altogether and it is amazing the amount of items we knit considering our very small number of people. If I didn't have knit club I would feel quite lonely as I have moved about a lot and any friends that I made along the way at school and university have all gone. I really should one day make an effort to try and contact some of them but that's easier said than done. It is a great bunch of ladies at knit club and we have a good laugh and a blether about all sorts of thing it is just the tonic you need I highly recommend it.

Well I better go now as it is getting very late and I really need my beauty sleep and when I say I really need it I mean I really really need it. Oh well I supposed I should be happy that I was blessed with brains but heyho thems the breaks.

Cheerybye for now.

A long time no see

Well as you will be able to tell from the date I have not been on here for a while. You don't say I hear you cry well I promise that I will do my best to write more in the future. Can you tell that I used to be a Brownie it was for all of 6 months I got fed up because when they did the birthday song at the end to go home they always started with January and my birthday is in December I took that as discrimination so I left, there was no tribunal I didn't think it was worth the effort.

There have big changes since the last post, well it has been over a year so it would be a bit disappointing if there hadn't been. I am not with Loving Hands anymore (long story) I am now part of the new improved Kirkcaldy Knit Club there is a link to this which I will add in at some point but I am supposed to be making dinner at the moment so I will have to finish up soon. On my next blog I will put more about my knitting and things in case anyone is interested I may even have a few funny stories but I cannot promise anything.

Here is a funny thing that happened yesterday. My son has been ill over the past few days but as he got better he decided he wanted on the computer I told him that he shouldn't until he got better so to get around this he told me that he wanted to show me something in his room. We went up the stairs and he left me in his room saying that he had to go down to get me a prize?? After he had been gone for about 10 minutes I realised that he had tricked me into going out the room so he could sneak on to the computer. This is a regular occurrence my son often outsmarts me and he is 7 and I am 37. I don't remember being that smart I don't even think I am now.

Well I shall finish off for now and stay posted for the next enthralling instalment.
